  2. No.  FICA will be taken out at 7.65% of your gross pay until you reach $102,000 in gross earnings.  Then it will be reduced to 1.45% of the rest of your gross earnings.

  3. Sure!  Just get a job that pays over $102,000 this year.  Once you make that much in 2008, the 6.2% deduction for Social Security will stop for the remainder of the year.  It will then start back up in January.

    Other than that, there is no way to stop it.

  5. FICA is mandatory in most jobs/professions.  There are industries that do not pay in to the Social Security system, such as postal workers, railroad employees, some members of the clergy.
