  1. In general no. You mention zero detrails but it's rare when larger wheels will work on any bike.

  2. Yes and no, and depends. You can't fit a 29" mtb wheel in there. You can fit a 700c road wheel (and tire). Brakes are the biggest problem. Rim brakes won't align. You can do this if you have disc brakes, but you'd have to have another set of wheel with disc hubs and 700c wheels.

  3. nope.... it just wont fit if it was made for a 26

    niner frames are bigger

  4. you're pretty much restricted to the length of the forks and the distance of the frame to the center of the wheel.  if you look at your bike, you probably don't have much clearance now.

  5. No, a larger wheel will not fit, sorry.

  6. On some bikes, you could change the fork and put a 29", but it might modify the geometry.  I think there are some rigid forks that allows you to put a 29er tire in front without affecting geometry, but they don't have any kind of suspension.

I think there's a "new" standard wich is 650b or 27.5" that might fit on the same fork as the 26".

  7. 26" wheels are on mountain bikes. On road bikes and hybrids there are 700c wheels (close to 27").

There are two important dimensions. One is the width of the axle which is also called dropout spacing for the rear wheel.

Chances are that on most bikes the wheel will hit the frame and won't work at all. Also, there are problems with the brakes hitting the rim of the wheel.

You are simply better off putting on slicks, tires with very little tread, on the 26" wheels if you want to ride on the road with less resistance.
