Question:

Can I change from Navy Active Duty to Navy Reserve?

I recently finished my medical/physical examination at the San Diego, CA MEPS as ACTIVE DUTY NAVY. I was on a medical hold and left before processing and signing a contract.

Can I switch from ACTIVE DUTY to RESERVE and not have to go through the medical/physical examination?

Will my ASVAB score (AFQT = 95) also be credible after the change?

I've decided to finish with college, but I need help with paying tuition.

  1. If you haven't left for basic yet, you have no obligations and you can still get out if you want. Sure they will threaten you and everything, but it's all lies.

That website should give you some more information. Basically, there should be some way you can switch. You said you didn't sign a contract, right? Then you don't have any obligation if you haven't signed anything yet. Not sure about having to do the physical and the ASVAB again, but you should talk to your recruiter and if he doesn't want to let you switch, walk out and go see another one until you find one who will give you what you want.

I was in the same situation, went to MEPS three times because I kept changing my mind, went through a physical for being an Army officer, then for being a Marine officer before finally deciding to enlist in the Marine Reserves. I had no problems changing.

  2. nope,  ifyou enlisted and  you must serve your term and when that is done you may be in the reserve... By the way you can finish college in the navy....

  3. Ask your recruiter, but since you've already signed your name, probably not.

  4. Clint there should be no problem. You haven't signed, plus even if you had signed the Active DEP contract you could still get out. Talk to you recruiter, tell him/her you want to change to reserve, if they say no, they are bullshitting you. So go ahead and find another recruiter or ask to speak with the Chief or Zone Recruiter.

Your ASVAB score if good for any branch for up to 2 years from the date you took it on.

Go to http://www.mynavyonline.com, I'm KJC88 there, we can help more, even if you need help talking to your recruiter there are some people on there who can call for you. But you shouldn't have a problem.

    Good luck!
