Can I change my Italian visa type D to a type D+C even though I've already been granted type D?

I have already been granted a visa type D, which allows me to stay for more than 90 days as a student in Italy, but I want to travel the Schengen countries 1 1/2 months before the visa takes into effect and type D does not allow me to do that from what I understand. The type D+C does allow me to do that but they just gave me the type D and I want the D+C (Schengen visa)

  1. no, a visa has that has been granted, cannot be change by the receiver,

the country that gave you the visa? is the one you MUST first  enter , otherwise, you will be rejected upon entering another country, laws of schengen countries.....

once in Italy, you may travel, but beware,

    first enter Italy......
