My computer (that I just recently got from a friend) is running on Windows XP; I noticed on the welcome screen that it says "Turn off so-and-so's computer" Can I change the name of it so that it shows what I want it to?

  1. Control Panel, User Accounts.  Select the account and choose to rename it.

  2. Yes, you can. Click right mouse button on My computer, then choose Properties > change > type whatever you need > press OK and restart the system.

  3. You can only do as others have suggested if it's not password protected. If it's password protected, you'd need to ask your friend for the password first, or try to go  online to find a program to set the password back to factory setting's default.

  4. to change your computers name:

    In Windows XP,

on your windows desktop, right-click My Computer. Select Properties. then selecet the Computer Name tab. There should be Two buttons,

    Network ID and CHANGE

select CHANGE and this will bring up a window where you can change the computer's name. Enter the name you wish your computer to have. immediately following this event you must reboot your system. when you have rebooted your system, follow the first three steps again to display the computer name tab and this should display the name you selected prior to rebooting.
