I want to download TV shows when I go to school, but I have heard that the RIAA targets college campuses. Are they just targeting music downloaders using lime wire? or are they targeting azureus users as well?

Is the ip address used to track illegal downloads an internal address on the larger college network? if so, couldn't i just change that whenever I wanted to? Kind of like port forwarding to protect myself?

  1. the main ip address given to the system will be by the isp

depends on your administrators how much they track indiv users

Unless they have something somewhat sophisticated the logs in the routers are overkill - they were never meant for tracking

Not to say that it could not be done

try to find out the router they are using

If its wireless it may just be a regular retail type router

    lol

by the way if you change your network card - i.e. new pcmcia  card or go wireless to ethernet cable the system will think you are a new device and grant a new ip

  2. no matter your ip address the college network would show the usage. And even if you used a way to mask the address the network would still show where the data went. Stay legal. Stay clean.

  3. The collage could identify who used what. Change your ip, computer name, mac-address, and use anonymizer.

Go to download.com and search it.
