Can I change my name from another country?

I'm a US citizen who recently married a Japanese citizen. We are currently living in Japan, but plan to move back to the US in a few years. I want to legally change my las name, but am not sure if I can from Japan. Is this possible?

You may legally change your name overseas so long as you comply with local laws relating to such. You may also want to look up what requirements are involved to change your name in your US passport by contacting your nearest US embassy in Japan.
