Can I change my push-pull shower valve to a single lever turn type?

I have a shower with a push-pull water valve. I bought a new faucet set, and it's a single handle, but it's the type you turn - no pushing or pulling. Can I easily swap out the shower valve or am I over my head?

  1. It's not that easy to change out shower valve sets to a different type.  You need to get at the pipes in the wall to do that.  Either through the shower side or through the other side of the wall.  Often the other side is in a closet and drywall is easier to repair than shower tile.

You will need to be able to solder copper pipes (if that's what your house has) or change over the plastic piping if that's what's in there.  Both types need special skills and tools.

Call a plumber if you don't know how to do this.
