Can I change the customer serial on a Motorola SB4200E Modem?

I have just brought motorola surfboard sb4200e with a different customer serial than my previous sb5101. Im assuming that this is why the sb4200e cannot recieve packets from my internet connection. I get absolutly no internet connection with the 4200e at all, but the 5101 is fine. However I wish to change to the 4200e because the 5101 keeps overheating for no reason, so is there any way I can change the SB4200E's customer serial number so that it will connect to the internet as normal? (I am using Virgin Media Cable Broadband).

you will need to configure your logon user name and password for Virgin, then may need to change some of the protocol settings. These you will need to contact Virgin tech support for. Serial numbers do NOT relate at all to the connection.
