Is there any recourse for a landlord if the tennant caused damage and left an awful mess beyond the deposit?

  1. Sure.....take them to court.....small claims.....pain in the butt.....may work for you......


  2. SURE.

    You itemize your costs and get it to them.  Be sure to document the mess and damages with descriptions and photos.

    Unfortunately most won't pay up when they receive the demand and you'll have to sue them, and any time you go into court you have only a 50/50 chance of prevailing, and it takes time and effort, and perhaps an attorney

  3. You can sue in small claims court.

    You'll need to get evidence of the damages pictures, at least 2 estimates etc.. to justify how much it will cost.

    After you go to court and get your judgment, you can legally go after him for payment, if you know his place of employment, you can get garnishment serve for his employer and get your money taking out of that or even place a mark on his credit report.
