  1. You may be able claim for the mileage that you do in connection with your work.  You should enquire at H. M. Revenue & Customs.

Don't forget though that you will need business use on your car insurance otherwise it will be invalid in the event of a claim.

  2. If you are on PAYE you cannot normally claim anything except your allowances.

Are you really saying that your employer does not pay you for the mileage that you do?

    If so shame on them!

If they do pay you mileage at up to 40p it is not subject to tax

  3. Perhaps

HMRC will offset expenses 'wholly' due to your employment against your tax, so keep receipts. You should check if your employer reimburses you for mileage as HMRC insist that you take advantage of your employer's scheme in the first instance.

HMRC guidance on milegae is here http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/eimanual/...

  4. Have seen other similar questions on here - it seems common for employers not to pay mileage for care workers and I agree that it's shabby. Keep a record of all your business miles and make a claim on form P87 at the end of the tax year.
