I bought some patch repair, and redid some patches on my pants, and the glued dried on accidently <oops>. When I went to iron a pattern the other day it for obvious reasons stuck and ripped it. Is there any way to clean the plate?

 1. Mr. Clean Magic Erasers solve lots of household problems. Try that. I've used them to get rid of lots of gunky, sticky messes. You'll be able to get into the indentions on the iron, too. After you clean it you can iron a piece of waxed paper to make it glide more easily.

 2. Yes you need some kind of gel stripper they use for paints and epoxies and stuff. It will work on that kind of glue. Regular paint thinner or mineral oil will not work. You need a gel stripped that you can pick up from any hardware store.

 3. Get some rough fabric you don't care about like an old towel. Get the iron good and hot and iron the towel. It should come off. If the iron is still a bit sticky, try something like goo-gone after the iron has cooled down. If that doesn't work, your last resort is to buy the finest sandpaper you can get your hands on(try auto-body places), and very gently sand away the sticky stuff. After that, run a candle over the hot iron and then iron onto paper towels or rags you can throw away.Use the hot wax thing if the iron ever gets a bit sticky again.
