Question:

Can I combine 2 different flight tickets ?

The problem is like this:

I want to buy a plane ticket x*x-YYY-ZZZ. This flight costs 3500 euro (sic!). But I've noticed, that if I will buy 2 separate tickets (x*x-YYY) and (YYY-ZZZ) that would cost together 800 euro! I have no idea why does it work like this :/

Now is there any possibility to combine those two tickets into one? First of all it would like that someone would just transfer my baggage in YYY to the second flight. Secondary I want to be sure, that if the first flight was late, the second would wait for me (or they would just rebook my ticket without any charges).

So is it possible, or rather not ? Maybe you know some other ways to do this, without combining tickets.

  1. they wont transfer your bags or refund if you miss the next flight

id try a different agent and try to buy the combined ticket did you try other websites or direct with the airline?

why not have a night stopover at the city in the middle, with the 2700 euros your saving. plenty of time to transfer then

  2. Yes, you can buy two tickets.  The other two answers are wrong and you will be able to check your bags through to the final destination as long as the airlines inolvesd have an interline baggage agreement (most do).

However, the airlines will NOT help you if the first flight is late and that causes you to miss the second flight. Be sure to leave lots of time between flights so you don't have that problem.

Talk to a real travel agent about buying the trip-legs all on one ticket.

  3. If you decide to buy two separate tickets with two different airlines and you'll need to collect your bag at the transfer destination. Because your final destination with your first airline is actually your transit point.

Keep in mind if you travel to diferent countries you'll need to uplift your bag from the carousel, go through immigration, clear custom and recheck in, go through immigraion again and security clearance. There will be a lot and seriously I mean a lot of hassle if your time frame is short. It is your responsibility to make sure you can connect to your second flight. Think about what if your first flight is delayed, disrupted or cancelled? The first airline you travel with has no responsibility to bring you to your second flight and if you can't make it to your second flight the plane will fly without you. You might be able to get compensation from the travel insurance but definitely not from the airline, even if the first flight can't deliver you to your transit point on time and cause you trouble to connect to your next flight.

However, if you booked both flight under one itinary it will be the airline's responsibility to take you and your baggage all the way to your final destination. If there were disruptions, the airline will book you on the next flight towards your final destination. If you are required to stay overnight the airline will book you in a hotel along with meals depending on how long you'll need to stay in your transit point. Basically everything will be sorted out for you if any problems may arise. But with two different booking you may have to pay everything if there's any flight disruption.

If you decide to stay a night at the transfer country, make sure you have met both their passport and VISA requirement.
