Can I combine business with charity?

I am thinking about starting a small business. I also am interested in being able to donate my products/services to the needy as a community program. Can I start up the business and ask for donations to cover the costs for the donated stuff? I do not want to set up a non profit at this time because there is so much involved and it is a ton of work. I want to focus more on growing the business. Also, I want to first see how well received my charity program will be before starting a non profit. So can I combine the 2 for now or is that leagally not allowed?

  1. ABOUT 10%, IN 'CHARITY', FOLLOWED BY THE 'SIKHS', REALLY STRONGER IN 'FAITH', INCLUDING THE POOR PEOPLE....

  2. Its not my expertise either but I do see that it is being done.  Many solisiters call for donations for a good cause as a business just to collect and give a small portion to the cause that they use to recieve donations from.  Generally I don't like giving my money to them because only 20% or so will go to the cause and the other is to put in the pockets of the solister.  I would rather give 100% to the needy children or disabled vets or whatever.  I'm sure this isn't what you are talking about, but I think you can combine a business with charity!  Good Luck!

  3. Combine charity and business? Certainly. Most office bearers in governments do it. Especially those in Asia and Africa.

    Here's how to do it.

Set up a charity. Get donations. Siphon off a certain percentage into another charity account, of which you are the owner and BINGO, you've made millions! Yes it works.

Here are some examples: Marcos got 5 to 6 billion. Suharto got 12 billion (estm. They are still counting) Mugabe got - at last count about 121 billion and still rising. Taksin - a few million because they deposed him in a coup so he didn't make so much. Musharraf is still collecting. Badawi of Malaysia, his son in law, his deputy, the deputy's wife - they all head charities and keep getting richer.

What you want to do is too complex and involves too much work. Do what the world leaders do. Learn from their simple scheme. If you get caught, learn from them how to wriggle out. See what Imelda Marcos is doing? While the court case is dragging on, her bank interests keeps on growing.

  4. Well a business and a non profit organisation are mutually exclusive.  You can't be a business without making a profit, and you can't be a NPO if you're making profits.

You can start two separately of eachother though.
