  1. ??? Why could you not? Can you commute from San Pedro to Hollywood? Or Long Beach? It is a long commute but you could do it if you wanted to.

  2. Yes. You can commute from San Pedro to Lancaster. But you will have a LONG commute! About 100 miles each way. With heavy traffic, about 2-3 hours each way.  But if you work odd hours and can avoid rush hour, your commute time should be closer to 2 hours in each diection. You're going to spend about 35 miles of your journey on the notorious 405 freeway. As all of us in the Los Angeles area knows... The 405 during rush hour is a "parking lot" , not a road. That's where you're likely to find your traffic nightmare on any given day.

The freeways you would be using would be 110 North, connect to the 405 North, connect to the 5 North, and finally the 14 North.

By public transport using the MTA bus and Metrolink trains your journey time should also be about 2 hours. But you will save your sanity by not driving yourself. You will be taking the "Antelope Valley" line. I've included the timetable links below, that you will need.
