Can I compost duplicate checks?

I want to put my shredded office paper into my compost, but I see that there are old carbon-copy checks in the mix. I cannot find any info on how they are made or whether there are any toxins that would be bad for putting in compost. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

  1. no

  2. The chemicals in the dyes and also the chemicals used to make the paper in the first place are toxic.  I wouldn't take the chance on putting the compost on my vegetable garden.  No shredded paper should be put into the compost unless it is recycled paper in the first place and dye and chemical free or was printed using the newer soy or canola based inks.  The best way to dispose of it is to shred it as you have been doing and then recycling it.
