Can I connect 2 speakers with 3 wires?

I have inwall 4wire speaker cable that has a short circuit between 2 cables basically making it a 3cable wire. Can I use 2 wires for the speakers (+) and a common, the short circuit wires to the 2speakers (-)? it actually works, but can I damage my Amp or Speakers?

  2. It shouldn't. just make sure the wires aren't touching.

  3. if you have the two ground wires (-) together and two (+) together it will be fine.

  4. NO...You cannot do this...The " - " lead from the amp to the speaker IS NOT A GROUND!..If you were to use it as such, you may cause damage to the amp and/or the speakers...

    To make a sound, speakers use a coil of wire suspended through a magnet...When the magnet gets a voltage, it forces the coil to move and thus create pressure (sound) waves...The " + " lead makes the coil move one way, and the " - " lead makes it move the other way...The speakers need both to function...

    Unfortunately, it seems that you may need to run new wire...
