Question:

Can I connect a HD-DVD Player to a regular TV?

I know that the Player I have in Mind does have the needed output. A regular Video-Chinch output. The question now at hand is the following: Can I only watch regular DVD's with that connection from the HD DVD Player or can I also watch HD DVD's. (with limited quality.. that much I know).

Please help. I need to know soon because there is a great offer and I need to know if I should buy it!

  1. Actually, buying an HD DVD player is a good idea for anyone who needs a DVD player and either has or intends to buy an HDTV. They are currently a great deal for an up converting DVD player -- and as a bonus will play HD DVDs as well.

As others said, you won't harm anything, but you won't benefit either, so unless you plan to update to HDTV in the next year or so I'd save money (even as a good deal it's still more money) and buy a regular DVD player.so i think you should get the better offer

  2. You can watch either one... However, your TV will only display the "normal" resolution.

You won't be damaging anything.  As long as you checked out the proper connections... I'd say go for it! Get the HD-DVD player! :)

    EDIT

Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but that's the first time I've seen my answer simply copied!

  4. You'll find that an HD-DVD (or Blu-ray Disc) player will actually look better on an analog (regular) TV than just a DVD player.  While it's "technically impossible" you do get a marginally sharper image.  But you most definitely will notice an improvement in overall color performance over the DVD (through "component" jacks, of course).

The real treat for either HD disc format is the AUDIO.  Regardess of what type of TV you've got at home, the UNCOMPRESSED audio on these new discs is what's really worth the upgrade over DVD.  You'll have a hard time finding a demo of this great new audio in stores as most retailers do not set up their equipment properly.

You might also be aware that the HD-DVD has lost to it's rival, the Blu-ray Disc, and continues to lose ground in hardware/software sales at an alarming rate.  The "sales" you're seeing for HD-DVD movies/players are an attempt to clear all backstock with no intention of reordering.
