  1. Most combo units have composite or S video for the VCR and component video for the DVD. It is way better use separate inputs on the back of your TV for each device. Your DVDs will look better.

    composite video is the yellow connector

    S video (better than composite for VHS) is a 4 pin din connector

    Component video is the red/green/blue connectors designated Y pB pR
