I'd like to be able to connect my laptop to my PC to quickly and easily share information. Can I do this using a USB cable? An Ethernet Cable? Or through my non-wireless NetGear router?

  1. Hi,

You can do all of these, probaly thought the easiest way would be to connect the two through ethernet, and your netgear router and so then setup a network to easily share files and printers through the network.

  2. You could use USB. You could also use a cross-over cable. Not an ethernet cable though. I would actually use FireWire if your laptop and PC support it. The fastest would be the cross-over cable which would be 1000Mbps. USB is theoretically 480 Mbps. FireWire 400 is 400 Mbps. FireWire 800 is 800 Mbps. I would highly choose any FireWire over USB. I would choose cross-over cable over any of them.

  3. You either need a USB file transfer cable which will come with drivers, an ethernet crossover cable, or hub or switch or router and plug them both in with standard ethernet cables.

If your router has enough ethernet ports, then just plug them both in with normal ethernet patch cables. Make them both part of the same "Workgroup", set some stuff as shared, and away you go...
