Question:

Can I connect old speakers to new dvd?

I have a dvd/speaker system from a couple years ago .... the speakers connect to the dvd player by thin wires (which are then held in place by little switches). The dvd player is not working properly (it doesn't recognize movies, skips, feezes, etc.) but the speakers are fine. Is thre any way to connect the speakers to another dvd player so I can still use them? My other dvd player has the standard input/output/av connectors etc. on it.

Hoping someone can help me out as its times like this that being technologically challenged is really annoying!

  1. I really try to stay away from those all in one units for the reason you mentioned.  If you buy an amp the speakers might not work because they have connections that only work with the old device.  Does the old player have an input option on the back.  Could be an Aux port.  If so plug the new player into that and it should work.  Then plug the video from the new player directly into the TV.

  2. Either you buy something like you had before (without speakers) or you get an amp. Look around at Futureshop or the like for an open box amp and it will do the trick for you.
