Question:

Can I connect via VPN while on another company's network (possible proxy server issue)?

I have a company (Company A) laptop and need to connect to their network via VPN. but I'm in Company B's office, and their network is causing me problems. Company B uses a proxy server to connect to external sites, so I think the problem is that the VPN client (Nortel) needs the proxy server info to connect to its server. but there doesn't seem to be any allowance for this in the VPN client. Is there any way to put proxy server info into the VPN client?

Alternatively, is there any other way to get Company A's VPN to work while in Company B's office?

  1. It's more likely that Company B has restricted outgoing access for all but a few selected ports on their network and that Nortel VPN uses some of the restricted ports.  I don't know Nortel VPN and cannot advise you which ports need to be opened for it to work.
