I expect to put a manual box in. I would like to leave the pump and everything except belt. I don't want to just disconnect the power steering.

  1. why would you?  just take the belt off, but i think you're crazy.

what do you mean you expect to put a manual box in?

  2. The other answerers apparently did not read your question properly.

I cannot, for the life of me imagine why you would disengage the power steering.

The gear ratios for manual and power steering are very different, For this to work you would almost have to rebuild the entire steering mechanism because if you stay with the power steering ratio you will require the arms of a gorilla to steer the car.

It would be easier and cheaper to buy a car with factory manual steering.

  3. If '84 Cressidas came without power steering  get the complete system from a wrecking yard, it is quite an involved job though.

Why would you want to do this in the first place though?.

  4. Yes, you can do that. What you need to concern is only the price

  5. Change the box and you;re on. Remove the belt and you have done all that's needed!
