  1. Even if it were possible, which is doubtful as they shun outsiders. Do you realize that by converting to Amish, you would be giving up your life style as you now know it. No TV, radio, no fashionable clothes or shoes, no telephones, no computers or internet or equal rights for women, arranged marriage. Think of life in America 200 years ago, up before dawn. Milk the cows, plow the fields, make your clothes, cook all the meals with out the prepackaged foods we have now.  Learning to speak a new language, the Amish speak a  form of german.  No I am not putting the Amish down. But it is a way of life not just a religion. If you want such austere life yet still have some of the things you do, try the Mennonites.

  2. It is more than a religion.  It is also  lifestyle.  I believe you have to be born into the Amish community to be successful at being one.  It is a difficult life without modern conveniences.

  3. Yes, you can, but it is a difficult process.

Should you wish to join, you will need to approach an Amish minister and speak to him about it.A newcomer spends a year attending the church before considering baptism.

The Amish-Mennonites would be easier to join. They use electricity, cars, computers and the Internet. To know how to join them go to www.beachyam.org

  4. There are cases of people converting to Amish but it takes some doing like giving up wordly possessions and electricty. My Grandparents were Amish, they told me some English (others) joined them. I have met several converts myself.

  5. You cannot convert to Amish. The Amish are a closed society who do not take in outsiders...even if they are christian. The Amish are also an ethnic group who have mainly German ancestry and speak their own language(a variant of German).

  6. i'm not sure, but you could probably get more info on this in the religion and spirituality section.
