Can I cook corn on the cob in my electric turkey roaster?

Will the water boil in the roaster and simulate cooking the corn in the cob on the stove in a large pot? I need to feed a LARGE group (50 ppl) and was thinking a large electric roaster is the way to go. Anyone know?

  1. I am sure it would turn out just fine.  Do you plan on pealing the corn......  I think leaving the skin on would be a even better route to go.  Soak the corn.... with husk on.... for an hour or two before roasting.  I am sure it would turn out great!

  2. Absolutely... it works great. Just put the water in the roaster and turn it up full blast. Mine goes to 450 dg. F. Cook and steam until the corn is tender.  I use my roaster for steaming a lot of veggies. If you are feeding 50 people I would suggest you break the cobs in half. Then after they are tender add your butter and any seasonings you want to add to the corn. My roaster has warming pans which I use to keep the food hot.

Yes, by all means you can cook it down in the water.. but remember that when it is tender.. do not leave it in the water as it will get very very soggy. That is why I suggest putting it in the warming pans after it is done. Some roasters come with racks and that might work but you said you are serving 50 people. Cannot see how you can only steam a few cobs at a time. Boil them, pull them out of water, and keep warm.

  3. Corn on the Cob

    12 ears of corn, shucked

    3 cups water

Place rack in Nesco® 18 quart Roaster Oven. Add 3 cups hot water. Cover. Preheat to 400º F. for 20 minutes.

Set cobs on rack. Cover. Steam 25 minutes or until tender. Reduce temperature to 300º F. to keep corn hot.

    Makes 12 cobs.
