I was just thinking.. Do you think it would be possible to cool a small bedroom with the fan blowing against the wall(let's say like 2-3feet away)?

Since the fan is blowing against the wall making that little area of wall cooler, wouldn't it cool down the room by blowing the warm air on that cool spot, mean while circulating the cooler air?

  1. It's funny you asked this.  I used my fan to cool my bedroom in my apartment the same way because I have no windows in that room.

I set my fan about 2 feet or so away from the wall.  And a couple of nights ago, the smell of burning rubber fumigated the room, and then I heard a couple of clicks before my fan died.

Doing this places stress on your fan because it's pushing against a deflective force, and it causes you fan to work harder.  Thus it burns out faster.  I had only owned this fan for six months.

You can always go out an buy a new fan, but I thought I'd share this.

  2. The best place for a fan is in front of a window. It will cool off the hot hair or cool the air entering the room even more. Air circulation is what cools the air off.

  3. Not quite. The movement of the air is what makes the air feel cool. It doesn't actually cool it enough to do any good. Just blows hot air around. You can cool a room by sucking the hot air out if you have a source of cooler air to come into the room. Otherwise placing the fan to move the air around your body is the most efficient way.

  4. yes.

  5. My best results with a fan were to put it in a window thus pulling in the cooler air from outside. One should also consider tilting it slightly upward because the hotter air in the room is at the ceiling. By forcing the cooler air "up", it cools the warmer air thus the cooler air settles downward and cools the entire room not just the lower couple of feet.

  6. Actually, you'll cool a wall.....

And all your friends will say, "You sure have some COOL walls".
