Under copyright law can I legally copy an entire newspaper then Freely distribute it? My friends and relatives would like to read several articles in the newspaper but it had been 2 days since the article was published, this is why they wanted to read it. So I decided to make copies and then distribute it.

I have heard of the Fair Use and Fair Dealing laws but I cannot find much about the legal part of it just overviews of the law.

Please be specific. Please do not give a simple yes or no answer. I would like to know specifically why or why not.

  1. No.  It's a copyrighted work.

In reality, no one would mind if you copied an article or two and sent it to your relatives, but copying the entire paper would be illegal.  And come to think of it, it wouldn't be cost-effective either.  Much easier to go to the newspaper office and buy a few back issues.

  2. No, only if you take portions and reprint it, noting where it was published, giving credit to the publication.
