Question:

Can I copy my old hard drive data to a new laptop?

Basically, I have a new laptop and need to copy my old hard drive over to this new one. The laptops are exactly the same, so all of the configurations would stay the same.

Or, could I simply remove the new hard drive and replace it with the old? Because the systems are the same, I don't see a problem with that, but...

Any ideas?

  1. you can sharing your computer to laptop by wireless or lan

    or buy external hard disk

  2. If it just documnet and pictures, stuff like that, simple back it up to CD/DVD, flash drives or an external hard drive and then put it onto your new computer.

    If it's itunes go here

Any programs, just reinstall them on the new computer.

  3. yes. buy an external enclosure for the old hard drive. it's not expensive. but make sure you choose the right connector such as IDE to USB or SATA to USB etc.

  4. If you're using Macs, Migration Assistant (in Utilities) is the best way to keep everything the same on a different Mac. If you're using Windows, I think there's a similar feature, but I can't remember its name. Sorry.

  5. If the laptops are identical, you should be able to swap the hard drives.

  6. data can, but not the operation system.

if you want to duplicate the operation system, you should use an utilities software like GHOST to create an image, and clone to your new hard disk.

  7. Hai,

u can transfer ur data but there are some things concerned i.e if u put ur old hardisk in the new laptop the vga drivers will not b compatible and system restarts continously.to solve this restart the system with the old hard disk and press f8 key when the system is booting and select safemode (the comp will check the files and starts in some time).

Now go to my computer-right clik-properties-hardware-device

          manager-display drivers-right click and uninstall.

now restart the system and the system starts with the compatible drivers and u can take bakup .

If urs is a ide hard disk i.e if it has pins u can buy a external casing and fix to it and u can use it as pen drive.

if urs is a sata hard disk u can connect to the desktop directly and take a backup.
