Can I cover floor heating outlets?

We have just moved to the US and there is not enough wall space for our furniture if we don't put some over the heating outlets in the floor. What happens if we cover one or two? Is there a way around this? My husband suggested some kind of cover to direct the airflow outwards - has anyone tried this?

  1. Unless your furniture sits flat against the floor the air from the vents will flow out under it. There are plastic air directors that attach with magnets to the metal vents that will make the airflow more directional.

    Welcome to America. :)

  2. you can buy a plastic cover to direct the flow outward.  Any Lowes or HD carries them.  Yes heating outlets are covered all the time.  In fact we cut holes for them in the kitchen floor and then have to cut another hole for the heat to escape under the cabinet.

  3. Lar has the correct answer..I have a couch over ours that has these plastic diverters...I will see if I can find a picture..they are adjustible...Here is a picture of one..
