I have an all in one dsl modem and wireless router with a couple pc's connected. What I would like to do is buy a second wireless router, connect 2-3 computers to it via ethernet and then connect this subnet to the modem via a wireless connection. I need to know if this is possible, and what hardware will make the process easy?

  1. What you want to do is pretty common with wired routers, but wireless is a different animal.

The problem is that a typical home wireless router is designed to receive data over a wired WAN port and transmit and receive data over a sub net LAN port.

You are trying to get data into the WAN side of the router wirelessly, which will not work except with much more expensive commercial models

If you can use a wired connection between the first router and the second, you can do what you want. But not with retail home type wireless routers

Come on back if you need help configuring the wired routers
