would I ruin it even though I would keep the same proportions?

So, instead of using 2 eggs, I would use 1, and instead of using 2 sticks of butter, I would use one, and instead of using 2 1/4 cups of flour, I would use 1 1/8, etc....

  1. As long as you make sure and half everything in the recipe it should work just fine. One tip that I would recommend, is that you write out the halved recipe on a separate sheet of paper. A number of times, I have halved part of the recipe and then forgot to half the rest.

  2. you sure can... just keep temps and times the same.

  3. Here is a web page i go to to do this all the time

    Recipe Quantity Calculator

    http://www.fruitfromwashington.com/Recip...

it will redo your entire recipe for you!

  4. Of course you can cut the recipe in half... the temperature and time wont need to be adjusted if you make them the same size as you usually do. I never use crisco, only butter. Trans fats are scary (I don't trust the trans fat free label either). If the crisco looks like that at room temp, it looks almost like that in your body at body temp! Yikes! Stick to butter and oils.

  5. cutting each ingred. in half as you have stated will be just fine.  But seriously...why would you?   I can eat the whole batch myself!! :)

  6. You could possibly bake half and freeze the other half for later.

  7. As long as the time and temperature is the same then the recipe will be fine if its cut in half.

  8. You can do that with anything, just stick to the instructions though :)

  9. For years I have cut my recipes down - from serving 4-6 to serving 2.  By halving the cookie recipe - you do everything the same way as you would with the full recipe - but as the other answerer said - be sure to write the ingredients and halved quantities down so you can follow that instead of getting mixed up and adding the whole recipe amount part-way through - I've accidently done that a few times so now I always write it down first.

If you are cutting a cake recipe down, the time will be different in the smaller recipe but the oven temperature will remain the same.

And, FYI, if you halve the Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe on the back of the Nestles chocolate chip bag, it makes 19 cookies.

    Enjoy!
