My local Ford dealer says it is not possible & that the only option is to remove the airbag completely, but I would welcome a second opinion from anyone with experience of this.

  1. it would be dangerous and illegal.

if its for a baby it should be on the back seat anyway.

if you removed the airbags then later on had to get a roadworthy check on the car it would cost you alot of money to get them refitted.

  2. UCANTCME is correct with the advice. In addition to insurance rates climbing I doubt your company will support your poor idea in the event of a crash- no payout for anything. You should however be able to have the pass bag 'turned off' at minimum or should this be a health issue for both occupants then you need to contact your insurance company to qualify and document the change by doctors request. Also remember that resale goes to zero$ and should you modify it yourself (danger! danger!) it will most likely fail any type of safety inspection.

  3. For all the people saying why would you want to disable them, there is one very good reason: A baby carrier on the front passenger seat.

My car has a key slot near the passenger door, its really hard to get at so there is absolutely no chance of just seeing it and wondering what it does. I think i have to open the door and twist into an unnatural position and it is somewhere up in the passenger foot well.

If there isn't a switch to turn it off i'm afraid your just going to have to live with it and if it is for a baby carrier you'll have put him/her on the back seats.

  4. Do you like the idea of bashing a hole with your head through a large piece of laminated glass?

Would you then tell any passenger in your car that the airbags won't save them?

Wear a seat belt & drive safely.

  5. I strongly advise you NOT to attempt to disconnect or remove the air bags. Why would you want to? They are in place for your safety. You might feel that they are not necessary but let me tell you, air bags can and do save lives...and one of those could be yours someday.

Leave the air bags alone. They are there for a reason.

    EMT

One final point...air bag or not, deactivated or not, a child seat should NEVER EVER EVER be placed on the front seat.

  6. No it is not possible to do, they are controlled by the body control module assembly and this will not only set of the SRS / AIRBAG light but your insurance rates will increase and in it is illegal to remove them.
