Can I deposit my spouse's check?

we have a joint account, but i was just wondering if i need his signature in order to deposit it.

  1. I think you always need a signature to deposit a check. I've never attempted to deposit a check without a signature, so I don't know. If it's okay with your husband, you can always sign his name.

  2. If it his name on the check, then technically he needs to sign it. Nobody will be checking the signature unless there is a problem though, especially if you deposit at an atm.

  3. Sign it for "deposit only"  I do this every month and neither my wife or I need to sign.

  4. So long as the name on the check matches the name on the account they don't care who presents it.

  5. It depends on the bank.  The bank my hubby and I use does not require a signature if you are going to deposit the entire check.  If you need money taken from the check when you deposit it, then you will need a signature.

    Ask your bank for their policy on joint accounts.
