Can I divide a baby's breath bush?

Every year mine gets bigger and it has grown out of the bed! I don't know if it has a tap root or what.

no, it does have a woody taproot.  prune it by the thinning method.  grab the tallest part and follow it to the ground.  cut it as close to the ground as you can.  cut all the thickest stems that way until it is the size you like.  thin it every winter
