My question is basically just that... I would love to do social work, can I do this with a degree in Anthropology? I am getting worried I will not find a job with my anth degree... especially in the cultureless/museumless area I live in

  1. Most social work positions require a masters degree in social work (MSW) that would include an internship working in the field.

  2. You may actually be able to do case management which is a task of many social workers with the degree you currently have. Some agencies only require that you have a four year degree (it may not matter the kind) to do case management. However, you may not be able to do all the tasks a traditional social worker can and the pay scale may be lower.

  3. if you've already taken sociology and statistics, all you might need is field work in social work.  Check an online schedule for a B.S.W. - see what you'll need.

  4. yes, you can get involved in some entry level type counseling/social work- but to advance past passing meds to emotionally disturbed youths, you'll probably have to get a degree in social work.

  5. Unless you want to be doing grunt work, you need a master's degree in social work. You can do it without the BSW. Look into MSW programs and pre-MSW programs. Obviously anthropology wasn't for you, if you really wanted to work in a museum, you'd be willing to move and get a master's in anthro or museum studies.

  6. You can work in a group home, or other "paraprofessional" setting where "life skills counseling" is involved.  You need a Social Work degree to do social work. (I have a BASW)

Maybe you should go on to graduate school.  Do you want to teach?
