For example, I want to go from A to C by train and have to change train at B. Can I stop over at B for several hours and continuing to C without paying any extra fee? Is this allowed in Italy? I know I can do this in Switzerland. Please help me. Thank youuu...

  1. you can, in Italy...but you must simply advise before to buy the ticket...it's an easy solution, isn't it?

otherwise buy two different tickets...but i guess it depends on the train you want to choose...

    good luck and enjoy Italy!

  2. Basically, it depends on the train you take. If you take the Eurostar or any train with a seat reservation, you're committed to taking the train at the time listed on your ticket.

If you have a ticket without a seat reservation, there is usually a time limit for validity. For example, say you want to go from Naples to Florence but have to change trains in Rome. The ticket will say something like, "Travel must be completed within 7 hours of validation" (or whatever time limit is nominal for the length of the trip you're taking). As long as you arrive in Florence by the time the 7 hours are up, you're fine. If not, you should buy two separate tickets.

    Buon viaggio!

  3. it will depend on if you have to have reserved seats on the train. but when you make your reservations, you should get the schedule of the arrival and departure times for each leg.  you can work around with your schedule and reserve your seats.

and it depends on which kind of train you take (local or regional) whether reserved seats are required (eg. from florence to rome) .
