Can I donate plasma if...?

I can't donate blood because i lived in England a while ago and something about Mad Cow, but could i donate plasma?

  1. doubt it because i used to do it and thats one of the questions they would always ask you, but it wouldnt hurt to call the place up and ask

  3. No. The virus/etiological agent could be in plasma too.

  4. no you cant. The reason is cause you may have been exposed to Mad Cow alot of places over seas do not have the same regulations about their beef as the usa does. Sorry.

  5. Plasma is part of whole blood, so no, you can't.

  6. Though I am not 100% positive on this, I would say no. The process to obtain the plasma from your blood involves an actual blood draw. Then your blood is placed in a centrifuge and spun down to the platelets and plasma. Since plasma IS a part of your blood, if you have lived overseas and are considered at risk, I would say no, you cannot.
