Can I download SymNRT from another computer?

I need the Norton Removal Tool, but because (I think) my Norton 360 is blocking ftp downloads, I can't download it from my computer. I already tried un-installing and re-installing it but there may be other corrupted files that are also messing with my firewall. Can I download the file (symnrt) from another computer save it on a flash drive and then run it from my computer? or any other RELIABLE source from where I can get it.

  1. Hello,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

Since you have already unsuccessfully tried to remove and reinstall Norton 360, most likely there is some corruption in your current installation which needs to be resolved to allow Norton 360 to function properly.

Please follow these steps to remove and then reinstall Norton 360.

    1.  Click on the following link to download the Norton Removal Tool, which you can do from any computer:

    2. Once you have downloaded the Norton Removal Tool save it to an external drive or other media that you can connect to the computer that has Norton 360 installed.  After you run the tool, please restart your computer. Then log in to Windows again and run the removal tool again.  Restart your computer after it is finished running the second time as well.

    3.  Make sure that your internet connection is working properly, and then reinstall Norton 360.  Towards the end of the installation process, the LiveUpdate feature will automatically run and download and install updates to both the program files and definition files.

    4.  After Norton 360 is installed open Norton 360 and select "Check for Updates" to make sure that all available program and definition updates have been applied.

    5.  Click on the "Settings" link at the top of the Norton 360 window and then choose "Firewall Protection" and make sure that it is turned on.  Make sure that the Windows Firewall is disabled and also check that no other antivirus or internet security applications are installed and running.  You never want to have more than one active antivirus or internet security application running at the same time or it will cause conflicts.

Reinstalling Norton 360 and making sure that you do not have any other firewalls running should allow FTP connections from your browser. If you still have problems connecting to FTP locations using your browser, try resetting the Security settings to their default level.  If you are using a stand-alone FTP application and are unable to connect, please review the steps in the following document for allowing internet-enabled applications access through .
