Can I drill a hole with a cutting/engraving bit (Dremel)?

I need to put holes into tiny shells to make a necklace. Will a tiny engraving/cutting bit work? The Dremel site does not have this information, so please don't post it.

  1. for small holes it should work.  There are many different bits to use and one of them should do it.  Also you could put a small drill bit in it and it should work fine.

  2. practice first on some old shells....I tried making a wind chime out of shells and some shells already had holes but the ones that did not I just a put a very tiny & skinny drill bit in my dremel but it was hard to hold the shell so I put it in a clothes pin as a clamp was too hard and broke some shells.  I imagine you could use  a pr of long tweezers to hold the tiny shells.  Some of the shells also broke when drilling.  I found if I put some clear tape on the shell over where I drilled the hole they did not break.

Good luck with  making your necklace.
