Question:

Can I drill holes in my ski goggles?

I have a cheap pair of goggles that tend to fog up. I noticed more expensive ones have vents/holes in the lens itself. Can I drill some holes myself to solve the fogging up problem? If so, where should I drill them?

  1. You run the risk of scratching the lenses if you try to drill your own holes, and may even distend the plastic too so you can do more harm that good.  There are wipes that you use to polish the interior of the goggle, this prevents fogging.  Any ski store will carry it.

  2. Just get new goggles. Steep and Cheap (www.sac.com) has many really good deals each day on goggles right now. *Note, I do not work for SAC!

I don't know how often you ski, but to me, goggles are an ESSENTIAL piece of equipment. I treat the equipment that could save my life or prevent me from running into a tree as the most important, and worth spending a few extra bucks on.

I'm glad your drilling worked for you, but if you still experience issues, consider my advice.

Have fun riding while the snow is still here!

  3. Try using a liquid soap solution like Joy dish soap, rinse well. Anti-fog products generally contain rosewater, glycerin or alcohol.   People tend to overapply . The best preventative for any glass or plastic is cleanliness. Fog is controllable, water accumulation is not, easy to confuse the two.
