Can I drink Sunny Delight and take Buspar?

I know it sounds dumb but I saw that I can't eat or drink grapefruit with it which is fine... but what about like orange juices; cherry juice and such????

  1. All other juices are fine. Just grapefruit juice increases the bioavailibility of certain antidepressants/anti-anxiety medicines. I could never get a good explanation on the internet or from my doctor, but he did say that other juices are fine.


  2. Yes, you can. The thing with grapefruit is that there is a protein in it that can affect certain drugs in two ways:

    1) is through protein binding. Certain drugs stay in your system for long periods of time by binding to certain proteins. This grapefruit protein displaces the drugs from these proteins and thus you get too much available drug on board.

    2) the grapefruit protein inhibits the liver's ability to metabolize certain drugs and thus you get more available drug on board.

    To my knowledge, this grapefruit protein has only been found in grapefruits and no other similar proteins have been found in other citrus fruits.
