Can I drink alcohol after oral surgery?

I got hit in the face and displaced several of my teeth. i had oral surgery and got them back into place 3 days ago. i have a wire now through me teeth and a lot of stitches in my gums above them. is it ok to get drunk this weekend? or could it make things worse?

  1. you can start slowely after 3 days of oral surgey.

    Make sure the drugs you are taking might not react with alcohol.


  2. Sure. get drunk   Get really falling-down drunk, fall on your face and all that time and effort by the oral surgeon is wasted.

  3. Basically the answer is that it is not a good idea to have alcohol if you are not going to stop at one glass. Your teeth will take a while to settle and under the influence of alcohol you could put different pressure on them or even move them and lose them for good. Any painkillers you are on will not mix with alcohol and if you are on antibiotics they will stop working so you could encourage an infection to develop. Put your heath and welfare first this time  

  4. Well, there's two ways of looking at it really.

    Drinking weakens your immune system so it could potentially make you more susceptible to an infection in your mouth.

    On the other hand, alcohol is a good antiseptic.  Rinsing a nice stiff shot of Wild Turkey 101 around in your mouth every 10 minutes will probably help it heal!  LOL...
