  1. you might need higher class license ask the dmv

  2. you can drive a vehicle up to 7.5 tonnes on a uk car licence , if its a lorry it has to only have 2 axles i think. phone dvla to make sure but im sure your allowed

  3. Check your licence.

If you passed your test in 1976 you should have full entitlement for Cat C1 and Cat C1E.

C1 is your 7.5 tonne lorry.

C1E means you can drive a lorry up to 7.5 tonnes and add a trailer to take the combination weight up to 12 tonnes

  4. passed my test in 78 and i can and do . just check on your entitlements.

  5. Yes but not for Hire or Reward

  6. The simple answer is yes. Look on your license for a cat C1 entitlement. That means you can drive 7.5 t [8.25t with a trailer] vehicles. Apart from remembering that you are in a vehicle thats bigger, heavier, longer and takes more room/time to accelerate and brake than a van you should be ok.Wagons today are a VAST improvement on the ones i started with in the mid 80s.And yet they are now restricted to 56mph...

  7. I believe you need a specific licence for heavy machinery such as a 7.5 tonne lorry. It's really because of on motorways and dual carriage ways where you can go onto a different lane. Many people have died becasue of lorry drivers haven't looked or couldn't see them coming up on another lane and pulled out and hit that persons car and killed or seriously injured them.

  8. Yes - you should have what i call "Grandad rights" - meaning because you passed your test prior to January 1997 you have numerous additional driving rights compared to me who didn't turn 17 until April 1997 and missed out by a matter of months!

Not that I'm jealous or anything!!

The worst thing is, I took my D (Coach) licence in 2003, so i can drive a 14tonne coach full of people around, but i am still unable to drive a 7.5 tonne truck with a few boxes! daft really innit!

  9. Yes you can.

  10. Sure, put driving license on ground, roll over with lorry.

  11. Yes, in 1976 your car entitlement covers you up to 7.5 tons GVW, nothing to dowith Grandad rights etc- that's a different thing altogether. A 7.5 ton modern truck is as easy to drive as a Transit

  12. I think 3 ton is the limit. but you driving licence should tell you in the catergories section.

  13. as you passed your test in 76 then yes you can you do not need any special licence your licence is ok if any one else tells you diferrent they are an idiot and do not know what they are talking about

  14. yes you may drive a 7.5tonne lorry  on a car licence,

my best advice would be to book a couple of lessons with a training school on driving Cat C1 vehicles,

large goods vehicles behave and react very differently to cars

there are lots of working time rules to be aqainted with

there have been many changes concerning the highway code since 1967 also
