Question:

Can I drive a rented vehicle?

I am from Kerala.

I wish to rent a bike/car and go for a drive. That would mean I am not the owner of the car. I guess the person who rents me the vehicle will give me the RC Book (which is in his name), Insurance etc.

I was confused if that is okay to do. Are there any rules that are against this procedure? Does Police fine a person if he/she is driving, has the RC book etc, but the vehicle is not in his/her name.

Thanks

  2. Dear

At first, please confirm whether the car is having a permit/registration as rent-a-car. Hopefully most of kerala rent-a-car services are working illegally without rent a car registration/license.

But, of course, if you are driving a car with valid registration+insurance and other documents and you are having a valid driving license, it is not a matter. Please keep a copy of rental agreement along with the other documents in the vehicle. Also the understanding is between the owner and leaseholder, and there should be a valid contract in between. That's it.

    Best of Luck

    Thx

  3. If you are having a valid licence you can drive without worrying about the ownership.

  4. It is not as simple as it looks. It is fine if you are driving a rented vehicle- no police problem with that but if you hjave rented a vehicle for some days- owner might have done some paper work from you...undertaking of responsibility of accidents and repairs. This could also be tricky...as sometimes they ask for money for this and that...so be careful when you sign something.

  5. ACCORDING TO ME,you have all rights to drive that vehicle you rented coz may be that vehicle is not yours but when you are paying rent you stands to be temporary owner of that vehicle till the rent period, because you are entitled to return the vehicle to the owner in same condition when you have taken from him.

seconly, about police fining you is not possible coz i am sure that  when both you and owner have mutual understanding,if any cops stops vehicle simply reply him that the car is of your friend.

  6. no problem, if u renting a vechile in a  travels or  friend.

all  document is correct. or  orginal or photocopy is attested

then no problem. one condtion is u r using taxi like yellow board vaild badge licence u want.

ok bye wish u happy journey.

  7. rental car is kind of taxi car policy. Most taxi cars are owned by someone and drive by a driver. this is same kind. when u rent a car, they wouldnt give u a RC book. but they give u a copy of it for your use and insurance form.

  8. if u have a driving license u can drive a rented car/ there is no legal problem in this., re paper work contact the car rental company , they will give u the correct information.
