I am with Endsleigh Insurance and was reading through my documents earlier. I come across this:

Driving other cars

We will also cover You in the same way in respect of Your legal liability to

others to drive a private car not belonging to You and not hired to You under a

hire purchase agreement or leased to You under a leasing agreement, provided

You have the owner’s permission to drive it and You are permitted to do so by

Your Certificate of Motor Insurance and a valid policy of insurance is in force

for the car concerned.

Does this mean I can drive somebody else's car with there permisson because Ive been asked to drive a few different cars but thought I couldn't thanks.

  2. You do get the very basic cover while driving another car that does not belong to you, but you have to be wary as you only get third party cover while you are driving the car, so if you borrow someone's car, and smash it up, the insurer will pay for the damage to other cars involved in the accident, but not for the one you are driving.

Some insurers also insist that the car you have borrowed is also insured by the owner of the car, although you don't also need to be named on their insurance.

  3. Be careful, that sounds like standard terms and conditions

"...are permitted to do so by Your Certificate of Motor Insurance..."

That statement DOES NOT mean you can, it ONLY means you can if your Certificate of Motor Insurance says so!

If it does not mention this anywhere on your insurance Certificate (which, if you are on Third Party insurance, i doubt very much that it would) then you are not  allowed to drive their car unless you are a named driver on THEIR  insurance policy.

    Hope this helps :)

  4. It does sound like you could drive another persons car as long as they are not paying you to drive it.

But better safe than sorry.  Best bet is to call your insurance company and just ask them.  That is what you pay them for, let them earn their money and call them so that way your not taking a strangers word for it, you know yourself.

    Hope this Helps.

  5. id say with that you could. but carry ur documents wiv u just in case u get pulled u no wot the police r like!

  6. One point to keep in mind is that you are insured to drive someone elses car. The key word being CAR, this does not include 4 x 4 vehicles, vans, or anything else to that effect.

  7. yes you can I've got the same policy.

  8. Yes you can.

This is a normal part of a comprehensive policy (although becoming rarer). You can drive someone elses car so long as you have their permission and the vehicle is also taxed/MOT'd/Insured by the owner. You are only covered for third party in the other person's car so any damage you cause to that vehicle is between you and your mate to sort out.
