I'll be moving to Germany with my husband who is in the US Army. He will be stationed there for at least 1 year. Can I drive in Germany (including the US Army posts in Germany) with just an international driver's license? I currently have a NH license.

  1. When your husband is in the Army you need to go in the base to the Driver License place and having reading also riding test for German traffic rules. Than you get USAREUR driver license, you can drive in Germany.

Good things is you are having US Driver License. This take not so long and cost not much. I think something like $20.

Good luck wish you army spouse (also right now in Germany)

  2. As a regular tourist, your national driving license in connection with an international driving license would be good to go for a visit in Germany.

However, for military personnel and their dependents, other rules apply.

    USAREUR-Regulation 190-34

Soldiers, civilian employees, and family members assigned to Germany are not authorized to rent or drive automobiles or motorcycles until they receive their U.S. Forces Certificate of License.

  3. Gee I never really thought about it?  We are from the United States and we drove in Australia.  The rental car place didn't say we needed anything.  xox

  4. You can drive in Germany, but as far as on post you will need the license they make all of us get over here. It's called a USAERA I think. AS soon as you get here that's the first thing you should do. You can drive anywhere in Germany with it, but the international is good for outside of Germany. Just make sure you study, I failed it once, so did my husband. It's just written, no driving. Good luck and enjoy the experience, I love Germany.
