  1. You will be fine driving a Civic that long as long as you've taken care of it in the past. Some things you want to check out though:

    1) Change the oil and oil filter

    2) Check tire pressures and inspect for any damage, including spare

    3) Check all fluid levels, top off if neccesary

    4) Check your coolant, if necessary drain and refill with new coolant

    5) Check all belts and hoses, inspect for leaks of any kid

    6) Bring some sort of emergency kit

    7) Make sure your timing belt has been done!!! On an 01 Civic the recommended time to change it is 105,000 miles. If you haven't done it, DO IT before you leave. Also get the water pump and timing belt tensioner changed with it. Last thing you want is the timing belt snapping half way on your 1600 mile trip!!!

    8) Bring the right amount of $$ for gas. For a 1600 mile trip in a 01 Civic, assuming you get about 35mpg (usually its a little more) then the gas will cost you 1600miles/35mpg= ~46 gallons x Avg gas price

So if the avg price of gas is $4 the whole trip, then you need about 46x4 = $184 in gas money. I would recommend you have the money you need on a debit or credit card, its safer then traveling with cash. Double the cost if your doing only 1600 miles one way.

Other then that, you should be good. Good luck with your trip and hope you have a good time!

  2. Sure. Have a mechanic check it out and then hit the road. My '96 Accord has 127,000 miles and runs like a champ. I am planning on driving on a long trip soon. Highway driving is easy on cars anyway.

  3. change oil...check all other fluids/belt[s]...go

  4. i would actually change my oil before i go on a trip like that.  it should be fine thats not a lot of miles for a honda
