I heard that you need both a driver's license and proof of citizenship to drive to MX and back, but will they still let u come back to the U.S. with only a driver's license? My friend said they can do a back-round check and eventually let you come in, though it takes some extra time and they don't really encourage it at all. Does anyone know about this or have any experience with this?

  1. No you do NOT need a passport as of Jan. 2008.  As of Jan 2007, passports have been required to FLY to and from Mexico.  As of June 2009 passports will be required for LAND travel too.  Right now, you need a photo I.D.and proof of citizenship...a birth certificate. See site below.  Maybe certain border guards let people by at times, but I would not want to be on the wrong side of the border and depend on that.

  2. No, you must have a past port to enter into Mexico.

  3. As of Jan. 1, 2008 you need a passport.
