  1. Yes you may and American citizens do not need a passport to drive to and from Canada until June 2009.  Right now , you need a photo I.D. and birth certificate.  American citizens also do not need a visa to travel to Canada.

  2. As a visitor you can drive in Canada with a US License for up to 6 months.  If you are coming as a student you can use your license longer, but still have to get a permit.

But for a long term stay you need to get a local drivers license.  In BC it is within 90 days.  And if you have a US registered vehicle, you need to change the insurance within 30 days, at which time you need a local License to do it.

The regulations are set by the province, and slightly different in each, so can't really give you any more detail.

  3. Yes. My husband and I went to Canada in 2006. We rented a car in Canada and drove using our FL drivers licenses.

  4. Yes. Don't let it expire though. Make sure you have your passport / visa.

  5. You can drive in Canada with a US license however, you will need to change your license over to whatever province you will be living in, if you will be in Canada longer than 6 months.

Please make sure you have the means to legally immigrate to Canada, otherwise you will be turned away at the border. www.cic.gc.ca

  6. Yes but if you are there that long see your state about getting an intl license.

I moved there for two years and it is best if you can to get a Canadian license because it can serve as id.
