My yamaha a/v rec has 3 hdmi connections ( 1 output to montor and 2 input from sat rec and dvd. DVR therefore will require component video. A/V rec will not accept non-hdmi input with hdmi output. So can I connect DVD and sat rec via HDMI to a/v rec with hdmi ouput to montitor and then in addition connect DVR via component vid to a/v receiver with component video output from a/v to monitor? In other words can I have dual output connections from a/v to monitor (1 hdmi and 1 component video)? Or do I just have to go component video across all connected devices? Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom!

  1. You should be able to do what you suggest (although you will also need an audio connection from DVR to receiver .. optical would be best).

To work it all the TV will need to be switched between the HDMI and componenet input, and similarly the input of the A/V receiver will need to be switched, but other than making sure the various settings on the receiver are set up right it should work fine.

If your receiver is like mine you will have to set up one of the inputs (e.g. "DVR") to process component video input and appropriate audio input port.

You could also buy an 3x1 HDMI switcher with remote from Oppo for $99 ...

    Happy wiring.

  2. Get a HDMI switcher - it will give you additional HDMI inputs.  You can find one for under $80.  Make sure you get one with the remote.

    I like this one -

Xtrememac XtremeHD 4 to 1 HDMI Switcher XHD-4HDS-00.
